Our club has organized a visit to Rumah Charis Relau on 11 December 2012 ( Tuesday ), from 9am until 12pm. The main purpose of this visit is to give the old folks a clean and comfortable living environment.
When we arrived, we were greeted by the cheery old folks, gathering at the front hallway. We spent almost 2 hours to clean their living environment. We tidied up their bed, sweeped and mopped the floor, wiped up the windows, cleaned the toilet and etc...
After cleaning, we split up and started talking to the old folks. In our conversation, we realised that all the old people needed - someone who willing listen to them, even just for awhile. Their lives are nothing exciting, day in and day out - some of them are illiterate, so they can't even read the newspapers. That, or their eyesight is too bad. The old folks don't even play what is generally assumed as 'old' games, like chess. They mostly sleep or chat with each other. While it was nice conversing with them, we could sense the hint of loneliness when they talked about their families. After that we gave out gift, ' tambun biscuit ' which was donated by our president, Leo Choo Xin Yan.
All too soon, it was time to leave. After a group photo, we bade goodbye to the old folks. Altogether, it was a touching experience to serve the old folks. It reminded us of why we should always love and care for the elderly, it’s all because they need us. :)
After all, it's a wonderful experience to visit to the old folks home, ROAR!!!
